The China Partnership Blog, in celebration of a year of blogging, recently recapped their most liked posts of the past year. One that caught my eye was a post pondering what encourages the making of disciples among Chinese scholars in America. Good question indeed. The author surveyed over sixty Chinese scholars who came to faith while studying in America, with the result that, while a number of factors were significant, relationships appeared to be perhaps the crucial factor.
The key element the scholars recognized that God used to bring them to Christ was the loving relationships of Christians who connected with them and helped them in a new land.
In a way, the importance of relationships probably isn’t that big of a surprise, given the great significance of relationships (关系) in Chinese culture. The whole post is worth a read though, and definitely good fodder for considering how best to reach Chinese students and scholars.
